Tyre Protection in Car Insurance

knowledge

Tyres endure the most wear and tear due to rough road conditions, potholes, long-distance travel, rain, etc. Replacing or repairing them after damage can be a significant expense. This is where a tyre protection cover is essential because standard car insurance usually does not cover tyre damage separately. Punctures, bursts, sidewall bulges or damage from potholes and uneven roads are common issues car owners face. Without this cover, every time such damage occurs, you’ll have to spend thousands of rupees on new tyres or repairs.

Imagine you are driving back home at night and suddenly hit a deep pothole, damaging your tyres. Replacing the tyre will cost you a significant amount, and if more than one tyre is damaged, the cost multiplies. Without a Tyre Protection Cover, you bear this entire expense yourself.

This is where IndusInd General Insurance (formerly Reliance General Insurance) supports you. Our Tyre Protection Cover takes care of unexpected tyre damage, so you don’t have to worry about sudden repair bills. With benefits like quick claim settlement, cashless service at authorised garages, and 24/7 customer assistance*, you get reliable service every time you drive.

Benefits of Tyre Protection Cover

Protection from Pothole Damage

Most city roads are full of potholes. Tyres often burst or get sidewall damage when hitting a deep pothole. Tyre Protection Cover pays for repairs or replacement, saving you from paying thousands suddenly.

animation icon
Coverage for Sharp Object Damages

Nails, glass pieces and debris on roads frequently cause punctures and cuts. This cover ensures that if your tyre is beyond repair, you don’t bear the full cost of replacement and reduce your out-of-pocket expenses.

animation icon
Multiple Replacement Claims

With rising tyre costs for SUVs and EVs, a single damaged tyre can cost ₹8,000–₹25,000. Tyre Protection Cover allows multiple claims during the policy period, easing financial stress for car owners.

animation icon
Ideal for Highways and Long Trips

Tyre blowouts at high speeds can be dangerous and expensive. The cover ensures that long-distance travellers and highway commuters get financial support for sudden tyre failures.

animation icon
Covers Labour & Fitting Charges

Not just the tyre cost, but our add-on cover also includes charges for wheel balancing, alignment and fitting. These charges are usually not covered in the base policy, but they add up quickly and increase the overall repair cost.

Useful for Premium & EV Cars

Premium car tyres and EV tyres have higher costs and different designs (low profile, special grip), making them challenging to repair or replace. Protection against unexpected replacement costs makes this add-on a smart choice.

Who Should Buy a Tyre Protect Add-On Cover?

If you cover long distances regularly, especially on highways, tyre protection is crucial to safeguard against wear and tear.
Our tyre protection cover in car insurance is ideal for those regularly driving on rough terrains, uneven roads or off-road conditions where the risk of tyre damage is high.
It is also ideal for those who travel to cities for work or other daily activities. These roads often expose the tyres to potholes and poor road conditions, resulting in damage.
Our car tyre insurance cover is especially for new car owners to keep tyres in optimal condition during the initial years.
Premium car owners must have this add-on cover to protect their premium tyres from costly repairs and replacements.
For those who plan to keep their vehicle for a long time, this cover reduces the costs of damage to tyres from wear and tear.

How is Tyre Protection Cover Claim Calculated?

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has set specific guidelines for calculating the tyre protection claim limits. Based on that, we calculate the claim by evaluating the Mean Residual Tread Depth of the damaged tyre(s) at the time of loss, which is measured from the centre of the tread. Here are the applicable criteria:
