Own-Damage Bike Insurance
Own Damage Bike Insurance, also known as a Standalone Own Damage (SAOD) policy, is a dedicated insurance policy that covers your bike or scooter in the event of damage or loss. For example, it will cover repair costs due to accidents, collisions, natural disasters, fires and bike theft. An SAOD policy is an optional cover that can be purchased separately if you already possess a third-party bike insurance policy, according to IRDAI regulations effective from September 1, 2019.
For instance, if you purchase a new bike or scooter from a dealership, the dealer will typically provide you with a 1-year Own Damage policy along with 5 years of Third-Party insurance in accordance with IRDAI guidelines from August 2020. While your Third-party insurance remains valid, after the first year of your policy, you have the option to buy our SAOD plan to ensure your bike stays covered.
IndusInd own damage bike insurance (formerly Reliance own damage bike insurance) offers coverage starting at just ₹19 per month*. Under our plan, you can enhance coverage with 10+ add-ons that include covers like zero depreciation and engine protector, while enjoying quick claims!

Benefits of Choosing Own-Damage Bike Insurance
Covers Damage to Your Two-Wheeler
Own-damage bike insurance covers damages caused to your bike that a third-party insurance doesn’t pay for during an accident. If you bought your vehicle after 2019 and it is less than 5 years old, then this is the policy you need, considering you may already have a third-party cover offered by your dealership.
Instant Mobile Self Survey
Raising a claim after an accident can be a stressful event! With the IndusInd Self-i App, you get instant claim registration for your Own Damage policy along with video-based inspection initiated through your mobile. This not only saves time and effort but also ensures a speedy claim settlement with minimal paperwork.
Access to Cashless Repair
With IndusInd Own Damage Insurance, get access to a vast network of partner garages across India! No matter where your bike or scooter breaks down, our 11,000+ network garages* across India ensure you get access to cashless repair services without paying anything from your pocket. That's right, we settle the repair costs for you!
Affordable Premiums
Imagine having the flexibility to buy your two-wheeler policy only for the duration you ride your bike or scooter! Our Standalone Own Damage policy comes with the flexibility to buy and renew for shorter tenures, such as 3-4 months*, thereby reducing the impact on your budget. You can also go for long-term plans and still get discounts*.
Extended Protection with Add-Ons
We offer 10+ add-ons* under your plan to help reduce out-of-pocket costs. By choosing covers like zero depreciation, engine protection and key replacement, you get enhanced protection for your bike or scooter. You can even tweak the insured value of your bike to suit your budget.
Personal Accident Cover
You can now get a Personal Accident (PA) cover of ₹15 lakhs* with your SAOD bike insurance, as mandated by IRDAI, in case you do not have any other personal accident policy of similar value. This will help cover any medical costs you may have to pay for treating injuries sustained during an accident.
Key Features of IndusInd Own-Damage Bike Insurance
Types of Reliance Own-Damage Bike Insurance Policies
1
Stand Alone Own-Damage Insurance Plan
This one-year plan, purchased over and above your third-party policy, covers damages to your two-wheeler due to accidents, fire, natural calamities or theft. Ideal for everyday riders who want reliable, affordable and renewable protection year after year. We also offer long-term options up to 5 years*.
2
Short-Term Own-Damage Insurance
A flexible, limited-duration policy that protects your bike for a short span. Perfect for temporary use or seasonal riders, this policy offers the same coverage benefits without the long-term commitment. E.g., You don't ride your bike during monsoons, so you'd only need own damage coverage for a couple of months.
Add-ons Available with IndusInd Own-Damage Bike Insurance
Extend the coverage of your own-damage bike insurance by adding these optional add-on covers. Each add-on gives you extra protection and reduces the amount you may have to spend from your pocket after a mishap.
Nil Depreciation Cover
Money Saver
Popularly known as Bumper to Bumper, this add-on ensures that at the time of a claim, you get full claim amount for replaced parts like plastic, rubber and fibre without any deduction for depreciation. It typically covers up to two claims a year.
Engine Protection Cover
Extra Scooter Protection
Engine repairs can be expensive following an accident. This add-on cover addresses damages resulting from engine failures, oil leakages, water ingression, hydro lock, and more, which are typically not included in your standard insurance policy.
Helmet Cover
Extra Scooter Protection
If your helmet gets stolen or damaged in an accident, this cover reimburses you for its replacement. It is a valuable add-on since helmets are both costly and legally mandatory. This way, you stay safe while on the road and are covered for out of pocket costs.
Key Replacement Cover
Extra Scooter Protection
If your bike keys or lockset are lost, stolen or damaged, this add-on covers the cost of replacing or repairing them. It also covers digital keysets since most modern bikes do come with them.
Tyre Protection Cover
Extra Scooter Protection
This add-on covers cost for repairs or replacement if they burst, bulge or get cut due to impact or road conditions. Given how expensive tyre replacement is, this add-on is a must for two-wheeler owners.
NCB Retention Cover
Money Saver
If you have built up a No Claim Bonus over time, this add-on cover lets you keep that discount even after filing a claim. This is applicable for up to one claim in a policy year and helps you retain discounts on renewal premiums.
Consumables Cover
Money Saver
The consumable replacement or addition during repairs accounts for 5-10% of your repair bill! After an accident, you may need to replace engine oil, nuts, bolts and brake fluid. This add-on covers the cost of such consumables, which are usually excluded from standard plans.
EMI Protection Cover
Money Saver
If your bike is undergoing repairs in a network garage for more than 21, 42, or 63 days* due to major damage after an accident, this add-on cover pays up to three of your bike loan EMIs so that your loan doesn’t become a financial stress.
Daily Allowance Benefit
Money Saver
If your bike or scooter has been under repair in a network garage for more than 2 days, this cover gives you a fixed daily allowance* to help you pay for alternative transport until your bike is back on the road. The amount is decided based on your policy SI and the value of your vehicle.

What is the formula to calculate IDV in OD bike insurance?
Use this simple formula to calculate your two-wheeler’s IDV:
IDV = (Ex-showroom price – Depreciation) + (Value of Accessories – Applicable Depreciation)
Where:
-Ex-showroom price is your bike’s original cost (excluding taxes and registration).
-Depreciation is based on your bike’s age (as shown in the table above).
-Accessories include non-factory-fitted items like special tyres, seat covers, etc.
-Applicable Depreciation applies to these accessories as per your insurer’s terms.
Choosing the right IDV helps you avoid underinsurance and ensures a fair claim settlement.
