E-Challan Odisha
Odisha is known for its architectural marvels, temples, sprawling beaches, and delicious seafood. Over time, this Eastern Indian State has also embraced modern technology to improve civic life. One such development is the implementation of the e-challan system in Odisha. It has not only allowed state authorities to manage traffic seamlessly but also made the process of challan issuance and fine payments quicker, transparent, accurate, and far more efficient.
The e-challan system is now active across all major cities and towns in Odisha, including Puri, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack. Advanced CCTV cameras have been installed strategically in these cities at major junctions and roads. These cameras automatically detect traffic violations, such as overspeeding, jumping red lights, or riding without helmets. Upon detecting a violation, the system automatically generates an e-challan and informs the vehicle’s registered owner through a text message.
The implementation of the e-challan system in Odisha has significantly benefited both the citizens and the authorities. It has encouraged better compliance with traffic laws and helped the police identify offenders and impose strict fines on them.

What to do if a Wrong E-Challan Odisha Has Been Issued?
The e-challan system in Odisha is designed to be accurate and transparent. But sometimes, vehicle owners may receive incorrect challans due to reasons such as misreading of the number plate, technical glitches in the system, or a clerical error. If you have received an incorrect challan, do not panic. You have the option to file a complaint with the respective authority and get your e-challan cancelled. Here are the steps to do so:
Online
Visit the e-challan Parivahan portal and click on the “Complaint” tab available on the top-right corner.
Provide your name, contact number, email ID, challan number, and other mandatory details.
Explain the issuance of an incorrect e-challan within 500 characters. Ensure all details are accurate.
Upload a supporting image in the prescribed format as evidence of the incorrect challan.
Enter the captcha code and click on the “Submit” button. Note down the ticket number for tracking.
Offline
Visit the traffic police station or the Regional Transport Office (RTO) where your e-challan has been issued.
Meet the concerned officer and explain that an incorrect e-challan has been generated in your name.
Share details such as the e-challan number, vehicle registration number, and other required information.
Furnish valid supporting evidence and formally request the officer to cancel or withdraw the e-challan.
Regularly check your e-challan status until the matter is resolved. Follow up with the officer if required.

Importance of Motor Insurance for Vehicles in Odisha
Under Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, it’s mandatory for all vehicle owners in Odisha (and also the rest of India) to have a valid third-party motor insurance policy. If you are caught driving an uninsured vehicle, you may face a penalty of up to ₹4,000 and even imprisonment of up to three months. Beyond these legal consequences, driving an uninsured vehicle exposes you to hefty financial losses in case of an unforeseen accident or a mishap.
Consider this scenario. You are waiting at a traffic signal when a car hits your vehicle from behind, damaging its bumper, taillights, trunk, windshield, and several other components. The repair costs may easily go up to ₹50,000 or even more. With a comprehensive motor insurance policy in place, you can get these costs covered and also avail of the cashless repair facility. Without insurance, you would have to bear the entire loss out of your own pocket.
IndusInd General Insurance (formerly Reliance General Insurance) offers highly affordable motor insurance plans that go beyond basic coverage to provide 360-degree protection to your vehicle.
You can choose from several add-on riders and enjoy the cashless repair facility at over 11,000 network garages* across India. For example, you can include an Engine Protect add-on, which is particularly useful in Odisha, where heavy monsoon rains often cause waterlogging and engine damage. Considering the constantly increasing traffic density in Odisha and highly unpredictable weather conditions, a comprehensive motor insurance policy becomes essential.
IndusInd Motor Insurance (formerly Reliance General Insurance) plans are designed to provide more than just the mandatory third-party liability coverage. They offer comprehensive protection against accidents, theft, natural calamities, riots, vandalism, and other unforeseen risks. With 13+ add-on riders, cashless repairs at a wide network of garages, and quick claim settlements, we ensure you drive worry-free, always. Plus, our Self-i app allows you to buy, renew, and manage your policy through your phone.
