Planned Treatment

Planned medical treatments overseas will only be covered cashlessly. Notify us and get treated in a network hospital – We’ll offer 3 options to choose from. Reimbursement is only available for second opinions, post-hospitalisation costs, visa costs and rehabilitation services.

Submit Documents

Gather all the necessary documents for the international health insurance claim, including your Preliminary Medical Certificate (issued by us for planned treatments), prescriptions, medical reports, bills and payment receipts and submit them to us.

Cashless & Reimbursement Claim

Inpatient Hospitalisation: Covers hospital room rent, ICU charges, surgery, medicine and doctors' fees for when you’re admitted to the hospital for more than 24 hours.

Pre- and Post-Hospitalisation: Covers costs like diagnostic tests before hospital admission (up to 15 days*) and follow-up consultations after hospital discharge up to 30 days*.

Cosmetic & Elective Surgeries: You're covered for all surgeries overseas except gender change treatment. Cosmetic surgery is covered if it's medically necessary due to cancer, burns, accidents, etc.

Unregistered Hospitals: We cover treatment at all hospitals worldwide except those that are unrecognised and blacklisted, such as med spas, nature clinics, or nursing homes attached to med spas.

Unrelated Treatments: Any diagnostic tests unrelated to your hospitalisation, eyesight correction, vaccinations and immunisation outside of post-bite treatment, and health supplements that don’t need a prescription.

Respite Care: We cover all medical expenses except custodial or nursing home costs for terminally ill patients or daily living assistance.

Pregnancy and Infertility: Any pre- or postnatal treatments, or treatments relating to pregnancy, infertility (IVF, reversal of sterilisation, etc.) and contraception.

Obesity and Weight Control: We only cover surgery to treat obesity when it's medically necessary and recommended by your doctor.

Illegal Activities and Self-Harm: We cover all injuries except those caused by breaking the law or harming someone or yourself on purpose.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse and Nuclear Attacks: You're fully covered for medical emergencies, but treatments for alcoholism, drug abuse or overdoses are excluded. The same applies to injuries due to war or nuclear attacks and ionising radiation.

Choose High Sum Insured

Medical treatments overseas are expensive, and you do not want to pay for treatment out of pocket halfway through your stay. That's why you also need to account for accommodations, travel costs, and daily living expenses on top of treatment costs. So, choose a high sum insured plan.

Check the Countries Covered

Some plans exclude treatments taken in the USA and Canada, so it’s important to double-check if the plan you’ve chosen covers your planned treatment in your destination country. Ideally, you want your plan to actually have worldwide coverage and cover all countries without any exceptions.

Check the Plan Options Offered

Comprehensive global health insurance, like ours, offers several plan options with varying levels of coverage and add-ons to enhance coverage. So choose a global plan option that best suits your needs. We recommend going for a higher coverage plan to ensure medical inflation is considered.

Check for Restore Benefits

Choose a plan that offers restoration benefits to replenish your sum insured amount after a claim. This can be helpful in case your initial claim fully exhausts your coverage amount. Look for plans that offer this benefit for claims filed for the same or unrelated illnesses, so you get more flexible coverage. 

Prefer Plans with Renewal Benefit

Check if the international health insurance plan offers No Claim Bonuses or cumulative bonuses, free annual health check-ups and any other increments on your sum insured upon renewal. This ensures your plan still offers sufficient coverage in the future even if healthcare costs go up.

For Overseas Claims (Pre-Authorisation Process for Planned Treatment)

Inform Us

Planned treatments will be settled on a cashless basis only, so you need to undergo the pre-authorisation process and get a “Preliminary Medical Certificate” from us.

Choose a Hospital

Based on the documents you’ve submitted about your medical condition, we will offer 3 network hospital options to choose from.

Get a Detailed Medical Report

Medical reports and all other relevant documents must be shared with the hospital. You must contact the hospital to get a detailed medical opinion.

Opt for a Second Opinion or Submit the Consent Form

If you need a second opinion, we will guide you through the process. If not, notify us of your plans to get treatment abroad and submit the consent form and final diagnosis.

After you get your visa, we will organise your travel, accommodations and medical arrangements overseas for planned treatment.

Cashless Treatment at Hospitals

Once you’ve completed the pre-authorisation process: 
 - Present your Preliminary Medical Certificate at the hospital to get treated 
  •  - We or the Empanelled Service Provider will initiate a direct claims settlement with the hospital.
  •  - Once your treatment is over, we’ll arrange your travel back to India.

Reimbursement Claims (Only Available on a Case-by-Case Basis)

If cashless claims services are not available for pre- and post-hospitalisation, visa charges, documentation and assistance services:
  •  - Get treated, pay for the treatment and then notify us.

Cashless Treatment at Network Hospitals

Once you notify, IndusInd General Insurance (formerly known as Reliance General Insurance) will:
 - Verify your policy and send an approval letter to the hospital. 
  •  - Notify the hospital of claims approval within 2 hours 
  •  - After treatment, the final bill will be directly settled with the hospital within 1 hour.

Cashless Treatment at Authorised Non-Network Hospitals

The Cashless Everywhere feature allows you to claim cashless services even at non-network hospitals.
The cashless claim is available via the IndusInd health claims team, RCARE, on your health card:
  1.  - Call: 022-4890 3009 (Paid). 
  2.  - Submit documents to RCARE. 
  3.  - RCARE will coordinate for cashless approval if eligible.

Reimbursement Claims (Any Hospital)

 If your cashless claim is denied, don’t worry. You can still claim via reimbursement.
  •  - Fill and sign the claim form.

Can I buy an international health insurance policy in a foreign country?

Generally no. Most Indian health insurance plans will only offer coverage for medical treatments in India. If you are planning to seek treatment overseas, you will need to buy an international health insurance policy or check if your existing health policy offers a global coverage add-on.  
At IndusInd General Insurance (formerly Reliance General Insurance), we offer an international health policy with coverage up to $1 million. This plan will also help cover your travel and accommodation costs while overseas, so your whole stay is covered.

How much does international health insurance cost?

Our international health policy price starts at ₹243 per month*, but your actual plan price may vary based on the coverage you choose under the plan. This is because the premium for a global health insurance policy is determined by factors such as your age, health condition, choice of global health insurance plan option, sum insured, policy period, and pre-existing health conditions.


Global health insurance premiums are also slightly higher than domestic health plans due to their worldwide coverage. However, the advantages make them worth it, and they can be customised to offer affordable coverage.

Does an international health insurance policy cover medical expenses incurred in India?

Yes, in most cases it will unless your plan states otherwise. For example, the IndusInd Health Global (formerly known as Reliance Health Global) Policy offers a Global plan option and a Global + India plan option. 


The Global + India plan option will cover medical treatment costs incurred in India and overseas, while the Global plan option will only cover your planned medical treatments overseas.

Does a global health insurance policy cover planned medical treatments in the US and Canada?

Yes, our IndusInd Health Global (formerly known as Reliance Health Global) policy covers planned medical treatments in various countries worldwide, including the US and Canada.

Are pre-existing illnesses covered in international health insurance plans?

Yes, pre-existing illnesses are covered in our international health insurance plan, but only after you complete the 36-month waiting period. In case you need this coverage soon, we offer an add-on that reduces the waiting period to 12 or 24 months.


If you have ported your health insurance policy. In that case, the waiting period you have completed in the previous policy will be carried over, allowing you to retain the benefit without restarting the waiting period in the new policy.
