Mahindra Car Insurance

knowledge

Mahindra cars and SUVs are known for their durability, spacious interiors and value for money. They’re also incredibly versatile, with models like the Bolero, Scorpio and XUV becoming household names for their ability to tackle city roads and unpaved rural paths with ease. But despite their durability, Mahindra cars still need protection against unexpected damage.

For example, parking and driving in narrow city streets can be tricky. If you’re not careful, you could end up hitting surrounding objects or even other vehicles, damaging your car and theirs. With IndusInd Mahindra car insurance, repair costs for these types of accidental damage are fully covered, so you’re not left paying for repairs out of pocket.

At IndusInd General Insurance (formerly Reliance General Insurance), we've streamlined our processes so you can quickly buy and renew car insurance. You can also download your policy through the Self-i app and have it saved on your phone. This way, you’ve always got your insurance papers with you!

Why 5 Crore+ Policyholders Trust Us?

IndusInd General Insurance (previously known as Reliance General Insurance) offers access to a wide range of add-ons, a simple claim process, around-the-clock customer support and a strong cashless garage network, all designed to keep your Mahindra vehicle protected.

Why Do You Need Mahindra Car Insurance?

animation icon
Legal Mandate

Car insurance is a mandatory requirement for all car owners in India. So, you will need to insure your Mahindra car or SUV to avoid getting fined by the traffic police. If you’re ever caught driving without a valid car insurance policy, you will need to pay fines ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹4,000. In some cases, you may even face up to 3 months of imprisonment.

animation icon
High Quality Repairs

Models like the Thar, Bolero and XUV500 are known for their durability, but heavy use on unpaved village paths and pothole-ridden city roads can lead to damage. So, if you hit a particularly bad pothole, it can result in tyre blowouts or repairs to the undercarriage components, like the exhaust system. With car insurance, these repair costs are covered.

animation icon
Covers Car Theft

Rising theft rates in major cities like Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai can spell trouble for new and high-end Mahindra SUV owners. With more expensive models like the XEV 9e costing up to ₹31 lakhs*, having our car insurance can help recover from total loss-type incidents like theft. We cover this loss by paying you the IDV amount. And if you get the Return to Invoice add-on with your plan, you get the original invoice price of your SUV fully reimbursed*.

animation icon
Covers Natural Disasters

Car parts, such as the engine, can get damaged during the rainy season, especially if your city or town is prone to flooding. For reference, engine repairs can cost up to ₹50,000*, sometimes more. With our comprehensive car insurance plan, repair costs due to floods can easily be covered. And if you get the Engine Protect add-on, you get specialised coverage for your engine so you’re not left with a hefty repair bill after extreme weather events.

animation icon
Covers Fire and Fire-Related Damage

While fires are quite rare, they can cause irreparable damage, and repair costs can be quite high since you may need to replace fire-damaged parts altogether. But with our car insurance, you’re fully covered! We cover damage to your Mahindra vehicle resulting from fire or fire-related incidents.

animation icon
Network Garages and Spare Parts

With a strong service and dealer network, it’s easy to find parts for Mahindra cars even in smaller towns. But you can’t always be sure where local garages get their parts from or if they use original parts. That’s where we can help. Our network garages only use original parts to make sure you always get access to quality repairs.

Types of Mahindra Car Insurance Plans

As a bonus, you also have access to 13+ add-ons with 3 EV-specific add-ons* to enhance coverage.

Factors Affecting Mahindra Car Insurance Premium

Multiple factors determine your Mahindra car insurance premiums, from vehicle specifications and how much your car costs to the type of car insurance coverage you choose.

criterio

Your Mahindra Car's IDV

IDV, or Insured Declared Value, is the current market value of your Mahindra SUV and plays a key role in determining your insurance premium and claim amount. A higher IDV leads to slightly higher premiums but ensures better compensation in case of total loss or theft. You can choose or adjust your IDV at the time of buying or renewing your policy based on your preferences.

criterio

Car's Make and Model

The Mahindra SUV's model, fuel type (diesel or petrol), and engine capacity all influence your insurance premium. A higher engine capacity or usage for commercial purposes generally results in increased premium rates due to the greater risk and wear involved. Modifications or accessories beyond factory specifications can also lead to higher premiums.

criterio

Type of Coverage

Choosing between a third-party and a comprehensive insurance plan directly impacts your premium amount. While third-party plans are cheaper, comprehensive coverage offers protection against own damage, theft, and natural calamities. Adding optional covers may increase the premium slightly, but the broader protection is worth it for your Mahindra car's safety on the road.

criterio

Add-On Covers

While add-ons help extend your coverage to tyres, rims, keys, locks, and depreciable parts, they do come at an extra cost. However, these small premium increases can save you significantly during repairs. Choosing the right add-ons ensures your Mahindra car is protected where it matters most. They cover high-wear or high-cost parts often left out of basic policies, making your coverage more practical and complete.

criterio

Claim History

If you have made no claims in the past year, you could get a No Claim Bonus (NCB) and enjoy reduced premiums at renewal. Plus, a history of frequent claims signals higher risk to insurers and may lead to increased premium rates in the following policy term. Maintaining a clean driving record can help you retain and even accumulate higher NCB benefits over time.

criterio

Installing Anti-Theft Devices

Installing IRDAI-approved anti-theft devices shows that your Mahindra car is better protected against theft-related risks. This added security lowers the insurer's risk, which can lead to a reduced premium on your policy. It's a simple upgrade that offers long-term savings. Plus, it adds an extra layer of safety when parking in unfamiliar areas.

Insure the Best Parts of Your Mahindra Car

policy-importance
Mahindra cars, like the popular Scorpio and Bolero models, are designed to handle rural tracks and poor road conditions, offering longevity where most vehicles fail. It’s not uncommon to find 15-year-old models still running well in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. The SUV’s tough chassis and outer body absorb most of the impact and shocks when driven. However, frequent use over rough terrain and pothole-filled streets can wear out the suspension faster. This can mean frequent repairs and tyre punctures, which insurance can help cover.
Most Mahindra cars come with powerful diesel engines tuned to perform in both cities and rural areas. They offer more pulling power when going up steep inclines and when carrying heavy cargo. For example, models like the Scorpio and Thar are adept at climbing mountain roads and can drive through sand and mud. However, since these roads can be more difficult to navigate and drive on, you may accidentally damage your car. Luckily, car insurance can help cover any accidental damage that occurs due to this.
Most Mahindra SUVs are 7-9 seaters that come with ample cabin space and third row seating for kids or extra passengers, making them perfect for big families. Plus, their high ground clearance, broad stance and tough chassis offer more safety when driving through waterlogged streets and congested city roads. However, if you’re not used to driving bigger cars, it can make city driving challenging. So, if you accidentally hit another car, having car insurance can help settle any compensatory costs you may need to pay.
Recent Mahindra models like the XUV700 combine durability and modern amenities to offer a premium feel at a much lower price. And with a wide service network, even in more rural areas, maintenance is quite easy, and parts are always readily available. But to ensure you always get high-quality repairs, you’ll need to partner with a reliable insurer like us. With our Mahindra car insurance plan, you get access to 11,000+ network garages across India. We ensure all parts used for repairs are high quality and genuine.

How to pick the best health insurance policy for you

Sandeep, age 40, a father of 2 and the only bread-earner of his family suffered a severe heart attack recently. Following which he was hospitalised and given the required treatment. The expenses incurred towards his hospitalisation and entire treatment was huge, but thanks to his smart approach and planning he had covered himself under a health insurance policy from one of the best health insurance companies in India which gave him good coverage and paid for the emergency medical expenses. His proactive planning and execution of buying from the best health insurance company in India proved to be beneficial for him and his family, as it was the health insurance policy which bared the cost of the treatment and hospitalisation and he or his family did not have to bother with the finances for the same.Though buying a health insurance is a wise move, what is even wiser is choosing best health insurance company in India.

How to determine which health insurance policy is best for you and your family? “Best health insurance” is a very relative term. What is best for one may/may not be for other. Below are few tips that may help you in answering the question ‘How to choose the best health insurance company in India:

1. Calculate your health insurance sum insured after analysing your present and future liabilities

Taking example of Sandeep; as he was the sole earning member of his family, he had financial liability like education to his children, family’s everyday expenses, etc. In such a situation, the sum assured has to be high, only then Sandeep could have managed his daily expenses and children’s education without letting his savings impact.

2. Look for the best health insurance company

Health insurance policies are provided by both life insurance providers as well as general insurance providers. As experts recommend, a top health insurance policy must be always bought from general insurance companies because there is difference in premium and by a common belief a life insurance company is usually known to focus more on life policies rather than health insurance.

3. Do a comparative study of health policies/premiums offered by top health insurance companies in India

It is always recommended before you buy the best health insurance policy from a health insurance company in India, as a thumb rule compare the health policy benefits and premium amounts offered by different general insurance companies to determine which is the best health insurance company in India. Also ensure to double-check the exclusion mentioned in the health insurance policy before buying same.

4. Check the track record of the general insurance company

While answering the question ‘Which medical insurance is best’ make sure your health insurance provider has a good claim settlement track record. You can find the same over internet reviews, from friends and family, etc.

5. Check the list of network hospitals associated with the general insurance company

The top and best health insurance companies generally have tie ups with certain hospitals in a locality. These hospitals are named as network hospitals in the policy and they provide cashless facility to individuals having health insurance with that specific company. Check if the hospitals mentioned in the health insurance policy are also in your locality or vice-versa. At the time of emergency, it is very important to have the hospital close to your home than in a separate corner of the city you reside in.

Reliance General Insurance has over 4000 preferred hospitals in its network list. It provides one of the best health cover policies in India. Recently the company has been awarded with prestigious awards for being the best health insurance company in India. Insure yours and your family’s health with Reliance General Insurance and stay assured of better care if the need arises.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Mahindra car insurance cost?

Our Mahindra car insurance plans start at ₹238 per month*. If you’re buying a third-party Mahindra car insurance plan, your premiums will probably be ₹3,461 per year* since most Mahindra model engine CCs fall within the 1000cc to 1,500cc bracket. To get a personalised premium quote, you can use our online car insurance premium calculator.

Are there discounts available on Mahindra car insurance?

Yes, we offer up to a 90% discount* for online purchases, an NCB discount of up to 50%*, a 2.5% discount* if you’ve installed anti-theft devices on your car, and another 5% discount* if you've got a membership with a recognised automobile association.

Disclaimer: These discount percentages are subject to change based on the age of the vehicle, vehicle make and model, and your chosen plan options. You can always contact us to ensure you have the most up-to-date information on your applicable discount percentages.

Which type of insurance is cheaper?

Third-party car insurance or own damage plans with PAYD covers are the most cost-effective option for those on a budget. However, you should know that third-party car insurance will not cover your car for damages.

If you're someone who uses your car frequently, we recommend getting at least an OD cover or a comprehensive plan. These may cost a little more, but they'll help you save more in the long run on repair costs.

Is insurance mandatory for a second-hand Mahindra car?

Yes. Whether your Mahindra car is new or pre-owned, it must have at least third-party insurance to be legally driven on Indian roads. Just scroll to the top of this page, enter your details and pay to get your car insurance policy instantly.

What happens if my Mahindra car insurance lapses?

If you let your policy expire, your vehicle will not be covered under insurance. This means if your Mahindra SUV gets damaged, you will not be able to file a claim and get reimbursement since your car insurance plan is no longer valid. Letting your policy lapse also means losing your accumulated NCB discount and other accumulated benefits.

Late renewals after the 30-day grace period will require a fresh inspection of your SUV, which could result in an increased premium amount. So, we highly recommend renewing your plan on time.

Disclaimer:

*T&C Apply. For more details on risk factors, terms conditions, brochure, and exclusions, please read the policy wording and CIS carefully before concluding a sale.
Claim Settlement Ratio: This is the overall claim settlement ratio for FY 2023-24 without claim outstanding at the start of the financial year as per public disclosure of Reliance General Insurance Co. Ltd.

The premium used is 2,853/year as of 1 March 2023 and then converted into a per-month basis, which gives us ₹238/month (2,853/12).
Discount: The discount varies basis vehicle specifications, No Claim Bonus discount and Geographical location of the vehicle to be insured.
