Travel Insurance for Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is a tiny island with everything packed in: colossal ruins at Sigiriya, emerald tea estates in Nuwara Eliya, blue whales off Mirissa, serene temples, spice-laden markets, and postcard-perfect beaches. For Indian travellers, it’s close, familiar in flavour, yet refreshingly different in culture and scenery - a perfect short break or a slow, scenic escape.
However, even the best-planned trips can go awry if not executed well. A missed connection in Colombo, a sudden stomach bug, a sprained ankle on Adam’s Peak or a lost passport can quickly drain time, money and energy. Medical bills abroad, last‑minute rebookings or emergency hotel stays aren’t just stressful, they’re expensive.
That’s exactly where IndusInd General Insurance (previously Reliance General Insurance) helps. It cushions you against medical emergencies, trip delays or cancellations, baggage or passport loss and more, so an unexpected mishap doesn’t turn into a financial setback. And if something does go wrong, claiming is effortless with the IndusInd Self‑i App. Raise and track your claim in minutes, upload documents digitally, and get quick, cashless approvals at any local hospital in Sri Lanka. Access 24/7 support right from your phone.
Travel light, explore freely and let us take care of the sudden bills while you sip that perfect cup of Ceylon tea in your next Sri Lankan adventure.
Exploring Sri Lanka should be about tea trails, beaches and heritage, not bills, delays or lost baggage. IndusInd Sri Lanka Travel Insurance (formerly Reliance Travel Insurance) provides you with affordable and dependable protection, ensuring that every unforeseen trip-related issue is taken care of.

Types of Visas for Sri Lanka
Planning a trip to Sri Lanka from India? Here are the six visa types to consider, so you can choose the one that best suits your purpose. However, even though Sri Lanka is offering a Free Visa for Indians at the moment, you need to get an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) if you are applying for a Tourist, Business or Transit Visa.
Free Visa
Sri Lanka ran a pilot in 2024, offering fee-free 30-day tourist visas to seven nationalities, including Indians. Always recheck the Department of Immigration & Emigration/ETA portal before submitting your application. The waiver has been extended/updated a few times and can change without notice.
Tourist Visa
For holidays, visiting friends/relatives, cultural/sports events, or even short medical treatments. Usually issued for 30 days (double entry) and extendable up to 6 months.
Business Visa
This lets you visit for short periods for meetings, conferences, training, or other business activities, and it can be issued forsingle or multiple journeys. You can apply online for a Business ETA before you fly, and if you need more time, you can request an extension from the Department of Immigration & Emigration.
Transit Visa
A Transit Visa is intended for travellers passing through Sri Lanka for a brief stay (up to 2 days) en route to another country, including seafarers entering Sri Lanka to join a vessel as a crew.
Residence Visa
This allows a non-Sri Lankan to live in Sri Lanka for a specific, officially approved purpose (e.g., work, study, dependents, etc.). It’s granted only when the authorities are satisfied that your stay and activities won’t harm the country’s interests and fit the rules of the relevant residence category.
Spouse Visa
Foreign spouses of Sri Lankan citizens and their dependent children are eligible to apply for this residence visa. Applications are processed only at the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Colombo.
