Health Global Insurance
IndusInd Health Global (formerly Reliance Health Global) is a comprehensive global health insurance plan that provides coverage up to $1,000,000 for medical treatment worldwide. It covers the costs of diagnosis, hospitalisation, and post-treatment care for planned medical treatments.
For short-term expats, digital nomads, frequent flyers and business travellers, quality healthcare abroad comes with the added stress of language barriers and higher costs.
If you are on the same boat, getting international health insurance is a smart move, and that’s where we come in. We cover a wide range of illnesses, including over 10 critical illnesses, with access to top-quality healthcare services worldwide.
Our plan can also be personalised to cover travel and accommodation expenses, so you and your family are fully covered during your stay abroad. Our Health Global plan, along with the multi-trip rider, ensures you receive coverage across borders.
What Is International Health Insurance?
International health insurance is a long-term medical insurance policy designed for individuals living or working abroad for extended periods. It provides access to planned and emergency treatments globally, including hospital stays, surgeries, and specialist consultations.
A global health insurance coverage is ideal for expats, students, and frequent travellers. Some policies may also offer optional coverage within India. It helps get continued care across borders without disruptions or high out-of-pocket expenses.
Understanding International Health Insurance
How is International Medical Insurance Different from Travel Insurance?
Travel Insurance
Travel Insurance is designed for short trips, typically lasting a few days to a few weeks. It mainly covers emergency medical expenses, trip cancellations, lost baggage, and flight delays. It is ideal for tourists or business travellers visiting another country temporarily. However, it does not include routine health checkups or planned treatments abroad.
International Medical Insurance
International Medical Insurance, on the other hand, is a comprehensive health plan for people living, studying, or working abroad for extended periods. It covers planned medical care, including maternity, chronic condition management, mental health, and wellness checkups. It also offers more flexible geographic coverage and longer validity.
Who Should Buy a Global Health Insurance Plan?
Expats
Ideal for individuals living or working overseas for extended periods.
Relocating NRIs
Useful for NRIs settling abroad with limited access to public healthcare.
Cross-Border Professionals
Suits those working across countries or on international projects.
Overseas Students
Essential for students studying at foreign universities for a long duration.
Frequent Flyers
Great for regular international travellers needing ongoing coverage.
Medical Travellers
It covers planned treatments or surgeries abroad for the insured.
Digital Nomads
It supports remote workers with no fixed country of residence.
How is International Medical Insurance Different from Travel Insurance?
Global medical insurance and travel insurance serve different purposes, mainly in terms of coverage duration and depth.

It covers planned medical care, including maternity, chronic condition management, mental health, and wellness checkups. It also offers more flexible geographic coverage and longer validity.
Why Do You Need International Health Insurance?
Covers High Medical Costs Abroad
Healthcare expenses overseas can be extremely high, even for basic treatments. For instance, a 2024 report by WTW shows 73% higher medical cost projections for 2025 in the Asia Pacific region, with cancer and respiratory conditions growing at a much faster rate.
Medical costs abroad can be double or even triple of those in India, making it mandatory to secure a policy when travelling overseas. Our overseas health insurance helps manage these costs and prevents financial strain when you need medical insurance coverage for planned treatment abroad.
Cover Specialised and Planned Treatments Overseas
Many people travel for advanced or planned treatments unavailable locally. International health insurance ensures medical insurance abroad covers such planned care without exhausting personal savings. We cover pre & post hospitalisation costs incurred up to 15 days from the day of arrival at the hospital for your treatment, as well as 30 days from the date of discharge.
Our plan also goes the extra step and offers further assistance with our concierge services – from losing your passport to needing hospital admission in a foreign country, we have you covered.
Get Comprehensive Protection (Hospitalisation, Pre/Post, and Evacuation)
Overseas health insurance offers comprehensive protection beyond hospitalisation, including pre and post-treatment expenses, emergency evacuation, and related medical support.
If you buy from us, you also get coverage for visa and accommodation costs. Plus, we also cover ICU setup and treatment up to ₹25 lakh. E.g., if a cancer patient gets medical care at home, treatment is covered up to ₹25 lakh.
Access World-Class Hospitals and Doctors Globally
With global health coverage, you can seek treatment at reputed hospitals worldwide. Our overseas health insurance ensures access to quality doctors and advanced medical infrastructure abroad. So, if you are planning to get complex surgery in the U.S – No problem! You can get it done at a top hospital without worrying about the bill since we covered up to $1 million. Claims are also fully settled cashlessly, so you pay nothing out of pocket.
Moreover, we offer unlimited coverage in India. For example, if you claim $500K abroad and then need a ₹3 crore surgery in India, both will be covered, with your treatment in India getting full cost coverage.
Continuity of Care Across Countries
International health insurance supports continuity of treatment even when you move countries. Overseas health insurance provides uninterrupted medical cover abroad during your travel between countries. This is possible through our multi-trip rider, which offers coverage for medical emergencies overseas and trip insurance for events such as cancelled trips and lost luggage. It is perfect for frequent flyers and those who travel often.
Types of International Health Insurance Plans from IndusInd
Global Cover (Treatment Abroad Only)
The global cover is designed for individuals who require medical treatment exclusively outside India. It covers overseas hospitalisation, emergency care, and specified major illnesses abroad.
Global medical insurance is essential for managing high international healthcare costs without relying on Indian coverage. It is suitable for expatriates, students, and professionals staying overseas long-term.
Global + India Cover (Treatment in India and Abroad)
This option provides flexibility by covering planned and emergency hospitalisation in India and planned treatment overseas, as per policy terms. It is ideal for frequent travellers or expatriates who return to India periodically. Health insurance global coverage under this plan ensures continuity of care and protection across countries.
Individual vs Family Floater Options
Individual Plan: Separate sum insured for each insured member.
Family Floater Plan: One shared sum insured for the entire family.
Ideal Choice: Individual plans suit varied medical needs; family floaters suit shared healthcare requirements.
How Does IndusInd International Health Insurance Work?
Choose Global (or) Global + India Cover
We offer 2 plan options – a Global Cover (for planned overseas treatments only) and a Global + India Cover. The Global + India Cover provides coverage for planned hospitalisations overseas, and planned and emergency hospitalisations in India.
Planned Treatment
Planned medical treatments overseas will only be covered cashlessly. Notify us and get treated in a network hospital – We’ll offer 3 options to choose from. Reimbursement is only available for second opinions, post-hospitalisation costs, visa costs and rehabilitation services.
Submit Documents
Gather all the necessary documents for the international health insurance claim, including your Preliminary Medical Certificate (issued by us for planned treatments), prescriptions, medical reports, bills and payment receipts and submit them to us.
Cashless & Reimbursement Claims
Depending on your claim option, we will either pay the expenses directly (cashless service) or reimburse you later. For reimbursement, you will need to submit your documents within 30 days of your discharge from the hospital. Once done, we arrange your travel back to India.

Factors That Affect Your Premium
Age of the Insured
Your age plays a big role in deciding the premium. As you get older, the likelihood of needing medical care increases, which naturally raises premiums.
Number of Members Covered
If your plan includes more people, such as in a family floater or multiple individual covers, the premium will increase. More members mean a wider coverage base and higher potential claims.
Destination Countries
Healthcare costs aren’t the same everywhere. If your policy covers treatment in countries with expensive medical systems, your premium will reflect that. Travelling to lower-cost destinations generally keeps the premium more affordable.
Sum Insured Selected
Choosing a higher sum insured offers stronger financial protection, but it also means the insurer carries more risk. As a result, you’ll pay a higher premium for the added safety net.
Pre-Existing Conditions
If your policy includes coverage for pre-existing medical conditions, your premium may increase. Insurers assess medical history and apply waiting periods or specific terms before coverage begins.
Optional Riders and Add-ons
Extra benefits, such as maternity coverage, emergency evacuation, or outpatient care, enhance your coverage but also increase the total premium.
Coverage Region (Including or Excluding the USA)
Plans that include the USA tend to cost more since healthcare expenses there are among the highest in the world. Excluding the region can significantly lower your premium.
Policy Term
Longer policy durations often cost more upfront but may offer better value compared to multiple short-term policies.
