Home Insurance
Home insurance, also known as homeowner’s insurance, is a simple way to protect your home and everything inside it from unexpected events like fire, theft, floods, or other damage. If something goes wrong, the policy helps cover repair costs or the value of lost or damaged belongings—so you’re not left handling a big expense on your own.
For example, imagine a short circuit damages part of your house, or heavy rains ruin furniture and appliances. With home insurance in place, you have financial support to fix the damage or replace what’s lost, instead of dipping into your savings. Whether you live in an apartment or an independent house, these risks are more common than we realise.
At IndusInd General Insurance (formerly known as Reliance General Insurance), our home insurance plans are designed to protect what you’ve worked hard to build. While every home and family is different, the goal stays the same: helping you feel secure at home. With the right cover, you can enjoy your everyday life knowing your home is protected.

What is Home Insurance?
Home insurance, also called housekeeper’s insurance, is a policy that protects your house and its contents against risks like fire, theft, natural disasters and other unexpected damage. It helps cover the cost of repairing your home or replacing belongings such as furniture, appliances and valuables, reducing the financial burden on you during emergencies.
In simple terms, it works by paying compensation when a covered loss occurs. For example, if a fire damages your kitchen or a burglary leads to loss of electronics, you can raise a claim with your insurer and receive financial support as per your policy terms. Instead of paying large amounts out of pocket, home insurance helps you recover faster and get back to normal life with less stress.
Why is Home Insurance a Necessity?
Complete Security at Affordable Premiums
Home insurance gives you financial protection for your home structure and contents against accidental losses under one policy. Instead of bearing large repair or replacement costs during emergencies like fire or floods, you get support from your insurer. This helps protect your savings and keeps your family financially secure in unexpected situations.
Covers Natural Calamities
In 2024-25, natural disasters such as floods, landslides and thunderstorms affected 360,000 homes in India, resulting in massive financial loss. This policy helps protect your home and belongings from natural perils such as floods, earthquakes, storms, lightning and more, helping you repair or replace damaged items.
Covers Fire Damages
Our home insurance package covers fire and related risks, which means it includes explosion and lightning, for both your building and contents. According to a report, fire and related risks contribute to the proportion of property claims in India. This cover helps avoid sudden, heavy out-of-pocket expenses.
Theft and Burglary Cover
The policy also covers loss or damage to your household contents due to burglary, theft, or housebreaking, including furniture and appliances. With burglary/theft accounting for a significant share (about 25%) of property and home damage claims, this benefit ensures you’re not left paying for replacements on your own.
Protects Your Family
We understand that family comes first! So, our household policy includes personal accident cover that pays compensation for accidental injuries resulting in disability or fatality of a family member at home. This financial support helps protect your family’s economic stability after sudden accidents occurring on the insured premises.
Protects Valuables
Home insurance helps protect your valuables like jewellery, electronics, appliances, entertainment units and fixed glass. It covers risks like fire, theft, natural disasters and accidental damage. This gives you peace knowing both structural and valuable movable items are secured under the same policy.
