Travel Insurance Claim

knowledge

With a rise in the number of international trips, India has also seen a boom in the purchase of travel insurance. 2025 witnessed a 43% year-on-year rise in travel policy purchases among Indian travellers. While the numbers signal increased financial awareness among the population, they also highlight the core underlying issue leading to these purchases. Flight delays, baggage loss and medical emergencies are some of the most common concerns tourists face during their trips.

However, just buying a travel insurance policy is not enough. You should also understand the coverage it provides and the situations in which it can help you. Most importantly, you should know how to make a travel insurance claim in times of need. The time limit for making the claim, the documents needed for approval, and the process to be followed.

Understanding this concern, IndusInd Travel Insurance (formerly Reliance Travel Insurance) has brought together this guideline, which not only informs you on how to file your claim but also explains the finer details of your policy without jargon. This guide makes sure you spend maximum time enjoying your trip, and not worrying about the what-ifs!

Tips to Make Successful IndusInd Travel Claims

criterio

Do Not Delay

Based on your policy and the nature of the claim, it is preferred that you initiate your claim within 24 hours of the emergency or as soon as possible. Unexplained delays may lead to rejection.

criterio

Know Your Policy

Read all the policy-related documents carefully to understand your rights, claim process, exclusions and other fine details. This spares you the panic during the moment of emergency.

criterio

Understand the Exclusions

Most travel insurance policies do not cover expenses related to maternity treatment, personal negligence and legal violations, etc. These exclusions may vary based on your policy.

criterio

Gather Necessary Documents

Make sure to keep all the necessary documents like your boarding pass, passport, airline email, original bills and other important and supporting documents with you carefully.

criterio

Accurate Information

Make sure the information you provide is complete, correct and as far as possible, accurate. It helps avoid unnecessary delays during the review and reduces the chances of rejection.

criterio

Police Report

To claim compensation for incidents like wallet theft, passport loss, etc., make sure you obtain a copy of the police report, stating such loss, within 24 hours of the incident.

criterio

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need to carry the policy papers with me while travelling?

You don’t need to carry physical copies of the policy with you. We actually deliver your policy to your registered email. Having a digital copy of your policy on your phone is enough.

What can you claim under travel insurance?

Your claims and coverage vary based on your policy, declaration of pre-existing diseases and the number of people insured. However, in general, you can make claims for flight delays, baggage loss, medical and dental treatments, wallet theft, etc. Make sure to check your policy documents for a complete list of all the acceptable claims.

Are there different claim forms for every type of travel insurance claim?

Yes. In addition to the primary claim form that you need for every claim, there are also claim-specific forms that you may need to fill out, based on the nature of your claim. For example, there are cashless medical claim forms, forms for baggage delay and loss, forms for passport loss, etc. You can download these forms by clicking here and selecting the form according to your claim.

How long does it take to settle a travel insurance claim?

The time taken to settle a claim depends on the nature of your claim. We usually take around 30 days for settlement, but it may take longer if we require additional documents or if there is a need for further investigation.

What are the countries covered under the IndusInd Travel Insurance Policy?

We have different travel insurance policies for different countries because of different laws. At present, we provide individual and family travel insurance for 170+ countries and also cover multi-destination trips.

Is it mandatory to buy travel insurance for international trips?

For most international travels, travel insurance is not mandatory. However, we highly recommend it to avoid additional expenses from your pocket during emergencies like medical treatment or baggage loss.

Can I make a travel claim after returning to India?

Yes, you can definitely claim baggage loss or other emergencies after returning to India. However, you must make sure that you have registered the claim within 24 hours (or as soon as possible) of the emergency and submitted all the necessary documents within the stipulated time.

What are the pre-existing medical conditions covered under my travel insurance claim?

The coverage of pre-existing diseases entirely depends on your policy and medical history. Please make sure to confirm it with our support team in advance.

Do I need to pay first and then claim reimbursement for medical treatment?

If you avail medical or dental treatments at one of our recognised hospitals during our trip, you may not need to pay any additional cash for the treatment. However, if the hospital rejects the cashless claim, then you can pay and apply for reimbursement after the treatment.
